Opioid Addiction & Treatment

The county's leading advocate for public information about opioid misuse and treatment is HC Drug Free (www.hcdrugfree.org), which focuses mainly on high schoolers. They conduct a variety of outreach campaigns, including presentations at high schools, drug take back days where you can safely dispose of unused opioid medications, and treatment advice.

Governor Larry Hogan declared an opioid prevention and treatment initiative in 2017.
This included better data sharing and analysis, improved access to recovery services, better training for healthcare providers, monitoring of prescription drugs, increasing access to naloxone and opioid dependence medication, and increased public awareness.
